In the South of Skye near Kilchrist sits this long abandoned manse ruin. It’s quite an eerie setting, especially on a typical moody Scottish afternoon, but with Beinn na Caillich and Bla Bheinn in the background, the outcrops of black, aged limestone and red grasses scattering the ground, it makes an interesting place to explore.
You’ll find more company in the sheep rather than other humans, as the walk to the area is a little out of the way. Nearby, Loch Cill Chriosd is another scenic place to stop by, and following the road west will take you around some of Skye’s most beautiful coastline, eventually finishing at Elgol.
This is one of the only photos of mine which features a building, it’s not normally my area of interest, but on this occasion, I was drawn to its character., and the subtle light hitting the snow caps in the background added even more to the shot.
Long forgotten by its previous owner, It’s funny how something left to ruin would now be a dream home for those who seek it in the Highlands. It’s no surprise that the most common response I get from this photo is, “I would love to renovate that house”.
Of course, that would mean the loss of all mystery in this place.
